White Peas Masala




Time: 1 hr + soaking time + pressure cook time
Serve: 4

Ingredients:


2 cups white peas(soaked overnight)(I used dried variety)
2 onion(finely chopped)
2 tomato(finely chopped) 
1 tbsp ginger and garlic paste each
few curry leaves

1 tsp cumin seeds 
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp garam masala powder
1 tsp chana masala powder 
2 tbsp red chilli powder(to taste)
2-3 tbsp coriander leaves(finely chopped)

1 tsp kasoori methi / dry fenugreek leaves(optional)
1 tsp sugar/Jaggery
2 tsp oil
salt to taste



Method:

1. Soak dried peas overnight or for 8 hrs.(Just leave this step if you are using fresh / frozen peas)


2. Pressure cook soaked white peas for 3 whistle(for fresh/ frozen only 1 whistle is enough) and keep aside. 


3. Heat oil in pan, add cumin seeds and curry leaves. Once splatter, add ginger garlic paste. Let it sizzle for 1 minutes and add finely chopped onion, saute till translucent. 


4. Now add tomatoes. Saute until raw smell leaves, it may take at least 4-5 mins.


5. Then add turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, sugar/Jagger, salt and chana masala powder. Mix well until the masalas are well blended.


6. Add cooked peas at this stage and crushed kasuri methi, mix well. Cook in low flame for 5mins. 


7. Garnish with coriander leaves and switch off.


8. Serve hot with plain rice, roti, chapati.. Enjoy.

Note:
1. Dried white peas can be replaced by any other fresh or frozen peas.
